OMET Group is a dynamic industrial reality located in Lecco, Italy, about 50 Km north from Milan, and composed of 2 different companies: OMET Srl and O-Pac. OMET Srl, founded in Lecco in 1963, groups 3 business units working in the following market sectors: printing (manufacturing of narrow and mid-web machines for label and packaging printing), tissue converting (manufacturing of automatic machines for tissue napkins and towels production), and systems in motion (production and testing of rollers and complete handling systems), each located in a different site and with own operations. O-Pac, born in 1989, is a young and vital company producing wet wipes for many uses. The whole Group employs around 400 people in Italy and 50 abroad in its 3 foreign subsidiaries located in China, Spain and the United States. OMET Mechanical Works, based in Lecco, is the fifth Italian production plan of the group serving the other business units for what concerns machining and mechanical works in general.
In the seventies of the twentieth century OMET grows thanks to the consent of an increasing number of customers who appreciate the quality, the level of innovation and reliability of its machines. The 1970s saw the addition of a ball bearing division and new headquarters and workshop in Lecco, Italy.
OMET establishes itself as an organized and structured company. The continuous growth of both OMET tissue business unit and OMET packaging printing machines business unit are the basis for the great leap: the investment for the construction of a new, important industrial complex in Lecco.
With rapid advances in technology and an expanding R & D department OMET consolidated its position in the Italian market. The 1990s saw the addition of Angelo’s son Antonio and son in law Marco Calcagni that gave start to the expansion in the global marketplace. This included the opening of 3 foreign subsidiaries: OMET Nord GmbH in Germany, OMET Ibérica in Spain, and OMET Shanghai in China supported by a network of distributors and agents.
In 2003 OMET celebrates its 40th anniversary by inaugurating a new Technology Center in Lecco with 3 stories of office space above. This state-of-the-art facility showcases OMET technology to its customers all year round through print demos and hands on training. Contemporarily, OMET begins a collaboration in China, firstly with the aim of selecting suppliers of finished products and components, and in 2007 by starting to produce locally. The evolution in time of the Chinese Division of OMET Systems in Motion leads to the founding of Suzhou OMET Mechanical Co. Ltd in 2007. The company is responsible for the sales of both printing presses and Tissue Converting machines and since 2012 has its own Showroom and Technology Center with machines available for testing and customer demonstrations. Four years later a technical support center was opened in the U.S, improving OMET’s reach around the world.
OMET desire is to hold firmly the leadership in the market where it operates that was achieved after years of arduous pioneering . Hence, the company’s mission is easy to trace: find always new ways to improve customers’ production methods, offer state-of-the-art technology capable of increasing the efficiency of the processes, rely on the most robust material to enhance machines reliability and durability, and seek to achieve the best quality output. In one word: innovation!
The best accolades come from peers within your industry. The 2000s saw many awards for OMET like the Innovation award presented by the Flexographic Technical Association of America in 2008. This prestigious prize awards OMET new line of XFlex machines which offer unparalleled manufacturing flexibility and efficiency. The XFlex has the ability to produce from labels to plastic film, and light cards mixing flexo, screen, digital inkjet, cold and hot foil, gravure and offset. Other awards include Labelexpo Award for Continuous Innovation in 2010, The Chinese Tobacco Industry Award, The Confindustria Award for Excellence.
Today, OMET can draw on a wealth of experience from its more than 300 employees in Italy, rising to 400 counting all the collaborators working in the foreign subsidiaries, and bask in the success of having more than 1300 machines installed worldwide. It has an extensive network of agents in countries around the world, and enjoys a steady growth of its annual profit since 2010 thanks to the tough work of its three divisions: tissue converting machines, packaging printing machines, and motion systems, as well as the O-PAC company, active in the cosmetics industry.
